Investigating the artist’s book in the 21st Century
  A selection of papers discussing contemporary artists’ books practice from an international perspective. These papers will offer examples of artists ideas behind their books, and show both hand produced and digitally created books.

Speakers include the Polish artist Joanna Hoffman who works with the book as creative document and installation; Rosa Tarruella (University of Barcelona) who will discuss Spanish artists’ books group 13L; Julie Barratt of Barratt Galleries, Australia will show examples of regional artists’ books and discuss the growing network of Australian book artists.

Maria Lucia Cattani (whose recent work includes QuadrantesQuadrants, a work placed in three academic libraries in UK and one in Brazil) will discuss contemporary artists’ books from Brazil. Tom Sowden (AHRC Research Fellow, UWE Bristol) will discuss contemporary artists’ books publishing in relation to the CFPR’s current AHRC supported project, investigating the artist’s book in the 21st Century.

Examples of artists’ books related to the project will be shown in the exhibition New Wave alongside Impact at the Bower Ashton campus.
