Tuula was born in Finland 1959 and has been living in Japan since 1989.
She is a member of The Finnish Printmakers Association and The International Ukiyo-e Society, Japan.

In 1981 she graduated from Kankaanpää School of Fine Art (Finland). In 1989 she graduated from University of Jyväskylä (Finland)with an MA from the Department of Art Education. From 1989-1991 she studied at Kyoto Seika University (Japan), in the Department of Printmaking. She was also a research student in Japanese traditional woodblock printing and papermaking. She is currently a Doctoral student at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (Finland),with the research theme: The concept of Time and Eternity in Japanese woodblock printmaking.

She has been a lecturer of printmaking, papermaking and bookbinding in several art institutions in Finland since 1986, including special courses in Japanese woodblock printmaking at the Finnish Art Academy, Helsinki. She was lecturer of Aesthetics and Western Art Philosophy at Osaka Gakuin University, Japan 2001-2003. Tuula is currently lecturer at Kyoto Seika University, department of printmaking, Kyoto, Japan 2009.
