James Boyd Brent is an artist/printmaker living in Minneapolis, USA. Trained at the University of Minnesota ((MFA printmaking) and Central St. Martins School of Art, London (BA printmaking), James grew up in the United Kingdom and came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar. He is currently working on a large series of etchings/engravings that center around the subject of water, inspired by his locale near the Mississippi River and by time spent in the Scottish Borders.

He is also Associate Professor in Graphic Design in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota where he teaches surface design and hands on printing/printmaking technologies to designers. His etchings and watercolors have been exhibited in numerous international and national exhibitions: his most recent one-person show was in November 2007 at the New York Studio Gallery, entitled “World Enough and Time.”

He has also worked in design curatorship: In 2001 he co-curated and co-wrote “Here By Design I” and in 2003 co-curated “Here By Design II,” and in 2007 curated “Here by Design 3: process and prototype.” All were at the Goldstein Museum of Design and were exhibitions of Minnesota artists/designers, in which the relationship between creativity and place was explored.
