Andrew Baldwin has been teaching printmaking at the School of Art, Aberystwyth University for over 20 years. He has won awards for his own work including Most Exceptional Artist at the Federation of British Printmaking exhibition, The Mall Galleries London 2006 and Welsh Artist of the Year Printmaking section St David’s Hall Cardiff 2007. Andrew has exhibited his etchings internationally, most recently at the University of Arizona, Tucson.

Over the last eight years he has been researching and developing his own etching ground. This has proved to be a resist which provides a more versatile alternative to the traditional method. By using safe products such as instant coffee and icing sugar in combination with the ground, Andrew has produced effective and exciting results. This new ground has since been adopted by the Aberystwyth School of Art and many other etcher printmakers. The 2009 autumn edition of Printmaking Today features an article on Andrew’s work and his innovative techniques. Andrew and his wife have their own printmaking workshop in Mid Wales where they provide tuition in etching, lithography and relief printmaking for all levels of ability.
